The Lost Son
Through the parable of the lost son we see the great loving and forgiving Father God we have. We also see the attitude one can have if their heart and attitude is not right toward ones fellowman.
The youngest son of the family requested that their father give him his portion of the inheritance in which he did. Sometime later the young son left home entered into a lifestyle that was shameful to his whole family.
He spent up all his father has given him and ended up in the pen with the hogs. Coming to his senses, he returned home asking to be given the place of a servant.
His father not only gave him his son ship privileges again; he gave him the best robe, the ring of a son, shoes for his wounded feet and killed the fatted calf reserves for special family celebration. However the older son had a different attitude about it all and would not participate in the celebration.
Luke 15:28-32
28 "But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.' 31 "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.' NKJV
Here are some of the things the older son accused his father of:
He accused him of being partial and showing favoritism in that he gave his brother the fatted calf and did not give it to him.
He accused his father of being unfair in not considering his service to him and how obedient he had been over the years.
He accused him of overlooking the life style his brother had lived.
Because of his attitude he failed to enjoy the grace provisions of his father.
Luke 15:31
31 "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. NKJV
